Individual First recognizes the necessity of food, water and a home but places emphasis on not waiting for a house to start supporting a person in addressing health issues, financial issues, legal issues, sanitation and employment support .

For years the concept of Housing First has been the dominate approach to ending houselessness. While effective the approach has also allowed elites to regulate the low income housing market and thus influence houselessness.

Since Housing First demands an apartment for placement. Elites are allowed to dictate the success of people by limiting the building, production, design and locations of housing for low income individuals.

Everyone deserves a home but Individual First recognizes that healing and situational improvement can start at anytime and anywhere.

We believe that meeting people where they are at and supporting them with accomplishing self-care, lays the ground work for beneficial behavioral patterns which will transfer and strengthen and grow once a person is housed.
